My early interest in art with depth and dimension as well as a passion for the study of light and shadow, influenced me to pursue an architectural career. After receiving my B.A. in Architecture from Washington University in St. Louis, I worked in a residential architecture firm for 7 years as a project architect.
While still working at the firm, I began taking classes in glass and was instantly enthralled with the material. Now, I find glass to be the perfect medium to express my passion due to its capacity to portray depth, its reflective qualities and the vibrancy of its color.
I combine sheet glass, glass paint and crushed glass frits to literally paint my scenes with glass. Each glass tile painting is fired 2 to 5 times at different temperatures to achieve the variety of textures as well as a sense of depth in each piece. The tiles are then floated in front of a mirror as a backdrop thus multiplying the imagery and backlighting the piece in a subtle way. I place the mirror within a shadowbox frame surrounded by a black background to accentuate the color and depth in the tile painting.
I welcome custom work and commissions. Due to the inherent color changes and patterns in each piece of glass, each object created is a unique, one of a kind, work of art.
I currently sell my work through art shows and I am represented by numerous galleries throughout Illinois.
